Ingo Angermeier

Ingo Angermeier is President and CEO of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, one of Spartanburg County’s largest employers. Spartanburg Regional is composed of three hospitals that provide healthcare services to a five-county area in the Upstate of South Carolina, and Rutherford and Polk counties in North Carolina. The system offers a full spectrum of medical and surgical services and has earned a reputation for technological excellence throughout the Southeast, while continuously providing the highest quality of care to a population of more than 350,000 people.

Mr. Angermeier has more than 30 years’ experience in health care and is a master’s prepared Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives.

He has had experience in both general and teaching hospitals and multi-specialty group practices both in urban and rural settings. From 1995 to March 2001, he worked as CEO at Louisiana State University Medical Center. He was also an assistant dean and professor there.

Prior to this, he held executive-level positions at four different hospitals to include:
System Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Executive Vice President of St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Topeka, Kansas; Associate Administrator/Chief Operating Officer of Salina Regional Medical Center in Salina, Kansas; and Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer of Creighton-St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. He also served as Associate Administrator of the Marshfield Clinic, in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Aside from his work-related successes, Mr. Angermeier has written more than a dozen articles, which have been published in professional journals and has lectured on various healthcare topics around the country.

He has earned many distinctions in the field to include: the Vernon E. Weckworth award for outstanding publication on the subject of medical staff organization; the Ross Laboratories award for outstanding health science treatise of 1974 regarding HMO utilization; and as a finalist with the American College of Healthcare Executives for outstanding research on the subject of teaching hospital medical staff organization. In addition, he is the world record holder for the 50-mile swim.

Mr. Angermeier has been involved in a myriad of professional and community activities, serving on boards and committees both locally and nationally.

Mr. Angermeier earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and philosophy from Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin, and his master’s degree in hospital administration from the University of Minnesota. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from the University of South Carolina in 2008.

Born in Berlin, Germany, he was raised from age 3 in Omaha, Nebraska.

He is married to Kaye and has seven children: Courtney, Katherine, Johnathan, Thomas, Tiana, Tarryn and Tori.
